Update on Lexie's stay at St. Jude's in Memphis TN & next steps

Our family has finally returned from our week long stay at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital!

Lexie's appointments began on Monday with a visit to the ophthalmologist. It was a relief to hear from the doctor that Lexie may not have retinoblastoma after all. On Wednesday they performed the EUA, and confirmed that Lexie had been misdiagnosed, and is actually suffering from Coat's Disease.

While Coat's Disease is still a serious and difficult problem to treat, we are extremely happy to know our daughter will not have to endure the lifelong problems that are associated with retinoblastoma.

During our stay at St. Jude's, Lexie continued through eight hours of appointments with various doctors each day. She received an MRI on Thursday which will help doctors to determine the severity of her Coat's Disease.Throughout this whole process, Lexie has done a wonderful job of putting up with the poking and prodding from all the doctors, and she has been handling everything better than we could have ever hoped for.

Because St. Jude Children's Research Hospital deals with childhood cancers, AIDS, and immune system disorders, Lexie has been referred on to a retina specialist at Children's Hospital of Los Angeles. She will meet with the doctor on Monday December 28th and we will know more information on what types of treatment we will be facing. We do know that treatment will involve multiple surgeries that will vary depending on what stage she is in.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the many people who have been involved in helping our family while we are dealing with this difficult time in our lives.

First, we would like to give a HUGE thank you to Sarah McMahan for organizing the silent auction and all of the work she put in to make it so successful. Also, we would like to thank everyone who donated items to the auction and everyone in attendance. Your generosity is truly amazing to our family, we thank you all so much!

We also want to thank St. Jude's for the incredible treatment we received during our stay, both in the hospital and during our time at the Memphis Grizzlies House.

Of course we are also so thankful to all of you who have continued to contribute to Lexie's fund and those who have sent your best wishes and prayers.

It is at a time like this where no words are good enough, and there are not enough thank you cards in the world to show how much we appreciate everyone who has been so wonderful to us!

We wish you all a very Merry Christmas!

We will continue updating the blog as we receive more information.

Thank you so much for keeping us in your thoughts and prayers.
